A small bird called the kawasemi has won numerous awards for its striking blue coloring. When the light hits its back just right, it looks luminous. And the front body is a vivid orange. Its picture has adorned many calendars.
I promised the kawasemis in the park I would not photograph them. All I do is take a good hard look whenever I can so that I can draw them later--they seem to be okay with that. This is a drawing made from one of those hard looks.
A mother carp had actually given herself up to let her children get away--do you see them? The hatchling on its mother's back sees what has happened, as does the baby spider; the mothers don't have to do any verbal teaching this morning; their offspring have received ample lesson visually, it seems. The crows are a little late. It seems to be a simple summer morning, but it seems to have been a meaningful shot of time, at least to a few critter mothers. Oh yes--that kawasemi was garnering breakfast to take back to its young back in the nest.
