When we came home after yesterday's outing, Janice set out doing what she usually does: looking through the tons of material Joyce has accumulated in her 40 years of ministry, deciding what to keep and what can be thrown out. It seems she really needs someone to do this; or else she will keep EVERYTHING!
But since I came home too and it wasn't just the two of them, my sisters decided they would show me music things from college days they found in their sorting. They were Joyce's masters recital videos. She had also won a gold medal in the voice competition at the end of undergraduate studies. Yes, that was many years ago. How many pupils has she taught since then to do congregational hymnplaying for Japanese churches, I wondered.
Yesterday, we'd had time to do all this because we came home early. Today, Pastor Ishikawa came to the house to show us the way to the hospital. He led us in his car for over 50 mins. until we reached the destination--a far cry from the time we watched him as a junior higher in his soap derby car--only a few seconds down that racing slope!
After a very good visit with his wife, Hiroko, we thanked God for His faithfulness and for getting us together, prayed, then went home. Hiroko was alert and responsive the whole time.
