LBBWKYD...

No wonder, usually, I see the herons flying about in the air with twigs and shrubbery in their beaks to line their nests. I realized it was because I went to the park early morning, and it had rained last night. They were looking for dry wood. I mean, how would you like to lie down on a bed of damp wood and be covered by spongy, wet leaves? So I guess most of the heron hunting for "nest-building material" saw only wet branches and came back "empty-beaked". But I saw one Great Blue Heron with a branch...and what was that expression he was wearing?

My mind's eye composed the following story of a small heron called Little Boy Blue. His white heron friend Cab was praised by his elders for doing a fine work--he gave lifetime service to a turtle named Quasi.

Cab was even called a 24-hour Superman! But Little Boy Blue--what could he do?

The time he saw the human June at Far End, he got excited and oops lost it, and he got Coffee the crow really mad at him. He was lucky; he almost made June his latrine. But he really didn't mean it.

When June seemed to forget about the incident and wanted to get a picture of him close at Deeper Pond, it seemed fish kept showing up at the side, so Little Boy Blue kept bending down and showing his rump to June's camera, but he wasn't trying to be rude.

After June was gone for a while and presumed dead, she came back to the park, and everyone was happy, even Koree the Cormorant came to see her from the river. But when Little Boy Blue thought one of those visits was finished for the day and perched atop the tree, Koree came back and called him a thief for stealing his spot!

"Thief? Aaack! Graaack" How was he supposed to know?!

Craaack!

No; that wasn't his voice; it was the branch under him. Quickly, Little Boy Blue lifted his eyes. The overhanging foliage had kept the area under him completely dry. Even a little farther in, he could see a slender twig--perfect for the nest! He carefully broke it off and carted it home between his beaks, singing,

"Ltlbb,wtknyd..." Oh, that's "Little Boy Blue, what can you do?!" But he had to keep  his beaks closed for a while.
